Snore Guard

Your snore guard works by gently holding your lower jaw forward while you sleep. This can help keep your airway more open and reduce snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea.

Here is some useful information to get the most our your appliance.

Important:

Before a snore guard is made, you should have a medical assessment for sleep apnoea, usually including a sleep study arranged through your GP or a sleep service. This is important to rule out conditions that may require medical treatment.

A snore guard should not be used as a substitute for medical assessment of suspected sleep apnoea.

Instructions

Wearing your snore guard

  • Wear it every night while sleeping.

  • Insert it as demonstrated at your fitting appointment.

  • It may feel tight or unusual for the first few nights.

  • Mild jaw or tooth tenderness in the morning can occur initially and usually settles.

Adjusting the appliance

Your snore guard can be gradually advanced if required.

  • Only adjust it as instructed.

  • Make small changes at a time.

  • Allow a few nights at each setting before advancing further.

  • Stop adjusting it and contact us if you develop significant jaw pain, tooth pain or difficulty opening your mouth.

The aim is to find the most comfortable position that adequately controls your snoring and sleep symptoms.

Cleaning

  • Rinse with cool or lukewarm water each morning.

  • Clean gently with a soft toothbrush and mild liquid soap.

  • Avoid hot water, as this may distort the appliance.

  • Allow it to dry before storing it in its case.

What to expect

  • You may initially notice:

  • Increased saliva or a dry mouth

  • Mild tooth or jaw tenderness

  • Temporary changes to your bite in the morning

These usually improve with continued use.

Please contact us if you experience persistent pain, significant bite changes, loose teeth, damage to the appliance or difficulty tolerating it.

Follow-up

We recommend a review after approximately 2–4 weeks to assess comfort, snoring and whether further advancement is required.

If your snore guard is being used to treat diagnosed obstructive sleep apnoea, a repeat sleep study may be recommended once the appliance has been fully adjusted.
